This magnificent, 300 year-old farmhouse will delight those who like thick
walls, cool interiors. This beautifully restored farmhouse in the outskirts of
Victoria, just a 5-minute walk from the city center and the unique Citadel*.
You enter from a common entrance in the farmhouse's wide elegant hallway. The
farmhouse itself has very spacious arched millroom combining an open-plan
lounge/diner with sofas and chairs, and a fully equipped oak kitchen with
natural Gozitan marble worktops. The huge bamboo shaded verandah which opens
off the dining area has a great view over the superb swimming pool (12 x
13.5m) and beyond to the surrounding sunny garden and fields leading up to the
ancient bastions and formidable fortifications. There is cable TV,
International Pay Phone and optional washing machine. A built-in barbeque is
near the private swimming pool.
There is a games room and one double bedroom with en suite on the ground
floor, plus main bathroom. A traditional stone staircase leads from the wide
hallway up to an airy loggia. Here, there are three double bedrooms, two with
en suite and a balcony while another has a large open terrace overlooking
pastoral Gelmus hill and beyond. It can sleep 9 persons comfortably.
* The Citadel or Gran Castello has impressive battlements, an
imposing Cathedral - the only on the islands without a dome - and the quaint
remains of old houses. One of these, the so called Norman House, has been
restored and is now the Folklore Museum. The Archaeology Museum has exhibits
from the Stone Age to the time of the Knights. The finely carved 12c tombstone
of a young Muslim girl, Maimuna, is particularly moving. The ramparts provide
a magnificent panoramic view of Gozo's haunting landscape, with its
distinctive flat-topped hills, tight-packed villages and church domes. Across
a glint of sea, Malta can be seen, and on a clear day even Sicily, 90km away,
is visible.
